Why opt for a lift-and-slide window?

The use of a bay window for a terrace is a feature of contemporary architectural style. Today, many households use lift-and-slide windows to open onto balconies and terraces. This solution, described as excellent by many, does however require you to choose the right model, for reasons of aesthetics and performance.

Why opt for a lift-and-slide window?

A lift-and-slide window is a modern feature that creates a harmonious transition between the inside and outside of a home. As well as letting in more natural light, they are aesthetically pleasing, easy to maintain and blend in well with modern, open-plan homes. You can opt for a model with a sleek, elegant design that will match any décor in your home.

What's more, this bay window can be customised according to your inspiration and taste to suit your personal needs. It can be designed in a multitude of colours, and may also come with handles and other original decorative features. Its motorised lift-and-slide mechanism allows you to lift, close and open by sliding the leaves. This model allows a wider opening and makes it easier to pass through.

How do I choose a made-to-measure lift-and-slide window?

Bay windows are highly appreciated for their prestigious appearance and their ability to provide excellent thermal insulation. To choose the most suitable product for your building, it is essential to consider a number of important criteria.

Choice of material

A number of materials can be used to create a sliding and lifting bay window. Among these, wood is a good solution for insulating the home. However, it requires a lot of maintenance. Aluminium, the most common material on the market, is appreciated for its rigidity, aesthetic appeal and ease of maintenance.

However, to ensure good insulation, it is best to look for a product with a thermal break. Despite its flexibility and ease of deformation for different uses, PVC is not ideal for bay windows. You can, however, combine it with aluminium for added strength.

The glazing model

Depending on your choice and your needs, you can opt for :

-       conventional glazing ;

-       conventional reinforced glazing (VIR) ;

-       double glazing ;

-       triple glazing ;

-       low-emissivity glazing.

VIR is a conventional pane with so-called reinforced thermal insulation (ITR), which saves on heating costs. It consists of layers of metal oxide applied to the glass. This retains the sun's heat inside the home.

Double glazing provides effective thermal insulation and consists of a layer of gas between two thick walls.

Triple glazing, on the other hand, is made up of three panes of glass and contains two air spaces of considerable weight. This model saves energy.

Safety performance

To ensure the security of your home, you need to choose the right level of security for your location and situation. There are generally four levels of security for picture windows. There's +3/10 for average burglary resistance, +5/10 for good resistance and +7/10 for very good resistance. Finally, +9/10 indicates excellent burglary resistance.
