You've probably imagined how pleasant it would be to enjoy a dip in a swimming pool at home during the heat of summer. The construction of a private indoor swimming pool is subject to a few conditions and must be carried out following a well thought-out process to prevent any inconvenience.
What do you need to bear in mind when planning the construction or installation of a private swimming pool? We'll tell you all about it here!
Planning and design choices
To create the swimming pool of your dreams in your home, it would be wiser to add it to the plan when you design the whole house. That way, you can organise it successfully and avoid any unexpected surprises. To do this, you first need to assess the condition of the site, decide on the location of the pool, choose the size of the tank, the configuration of the pool, and so on.
However, it is entirely possible to build at a later date. To do this, you can call on professionals who can study your plot and determine the best techniques, materials and configurations for the particular features of your home.
An important point to consider when building a private swimming pool is the level at which the first horizon of groundwater appears from the surface on the site. If this indicator is less than one metre, i.e. the water table is high, it is not advisable to build a fixed pool in a pit.
You could also consider installing a portable frame or an inflatable model. Whether this is a folding or fixed option will depend on your usage objectives.
Choosing the right space for your private pool
When choosing a location to build your own swimming pool, you should take into account the following recommendations from experts. This is not to say that you should go it alone and build your own private pool without any experience. These are general rules to be aware of so that you can keep an eye on the progress of the work.
Distance from buildings and trees
The pool should be located at a sufficient distance from residential and other buildings, as proximity to these structures can have a devastating effect on the integrity of the building's foundations. We advise against placing the pool near trees. This is to prevent roots, attracted by the large amount of moisture, from growing and destroying the structure.
The presence of a large number of trees near the pool also increases the intensity of pollution by foreign debris and stimulates the growth of algae.
Choice of flooring
Clay soils are best suited to the construction of a swimming pool. Clay can act as an additional barrier to soil moisture, so if there is a choice, such a site should be allocated to the pool. Digging a large pit is a time-consuming task, so it's best to choose a site where you can easily transport construction equipment: a shovel, cement mixer, crane, etc.
Structure configuration
Once you've chosen a location, you'll need to determine and design the future structure. You'll need to decide on the configuration of the bowl, its depth and the location of all the connections: the water supply point, the drop ladder, the filter installation point, the overflow, the lighting, the exterior lighting, and so on.
In addition to the main drainage point, an emergency water drainage system is recommended. The electrical wiring must be laid in the corrugation. At this stage, it is necessary to take into account the direction of the prevailing winds on the site. Debris falling on the surface of the water will be pushed towards a specific side of the pool.
